Start here

Most issues fall into one of three buckets: a group invite isn't working, events aren't syncing between devices or notifications aren't arriving. Walk through the sections below in order.

Can't join a group

If joining fails:

  • iOS. Make sure PearCal has Local Network permission. Settings, PearCal, Local Network. Without this, the app cannot discover peers on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Make sure both devices have internet access. Joining needs both devices online at the same time.
  • If you are on a corporate or school Wi-Fi network that blocks peer to peer traffic, try mobile data instead.
  • Restart PearCal on both devices and retry.
  • If nothing else works, ask the group owner to generate a fresh invite.

QR code won't scan

  • Raise screen brightness on the device showing the code so the scanner can see it clearly.
  • Clean the scanning device's camera lens.
  • If scanning still fails, tap Share Link and send the invite URL by any channel. Opening the link on the other device completes the join without the camera.

Events aren't syncing

Events you add on one device appear on the others the next time both devices are online at the same time. If changes aren't showing up:

  • Confirm both devices have internet right now. Both must be reachable at the same moment to sync.
  • On iOS, check that Local Network permission is granted for PearCal. Settings, PearCal, Local Network.
  • If one network blocks peer to peer connections, switching one of the devices to mobile data often fixes it.
  • A device that has been offline for a long time will catch up as soon as it reconnects to a peer in the group.

Notifications aren't arriving

  • iOS. Settings, Notifications, PearCal. Make sure Allow Notifications is on. Check Focus or Do Not Disturb if notifications are silent.
  • Android. Settings, Apps, PearCal, Notifications. Make sure notifications are enabled for the app and the reminder channels.
  • Event reminders are scheduled locally. They fire even if the device is offline, as long as PearCal has been granted notification permission.

Duplicate or missing events

  • Duplicates can appear briefly while two devices are reconciling changes made offline. They usually resolve after both devices have been online at the same time for a few seconds.
  • If an event you added is missing on another device, confirm you created it inside the shared group, not in your personal calendar.

Time zones look wrong

  • Check that each device is set to automatic time and the correct time zone.
  • Events store a time zone along with the time. If a group member travels, their events still display at the intended local time for each attendee.
