Frequently asked questions

What is a circle?

A circle is a private group of devices that share live location with each other. You can have multiple circles, for example one for family and another for a trip with friends. One identity, many circles.

How do I create a circle and invite people?

Open PearCircle, tap Circles, then tap "New Circle". Give it a name and share the invite link or QR code with the people you want to add. Invite links are single use.

How do I join a circle?

Ask the circle owner to share an invite link or QR code. Tap the link or scan the QR code and PearCircle will open the join flow automatically.

What are Places?

Places are named locations (Home, School, Work) you drop on the map by long pressing. Everyone in the circle gets a local notification when a member arrives at or leaves a Place. The geofence calculation happens entirely on each device.

What are Trips?

A Trip is a recording of a drive or walk longer than about one minute or 100 meters. Trips stay on your device by default. You can opt in per circle to let members see your Trips on the map.

How do I pause sharing?

Tap the pause control to silence your location for the rest of the day or until you flip it back on. Peers see "Sharing paused" instead of stale dots.

Does PearCircle work offline?

The map keeps working with tiles you have already viewed cached on your device. Location updates between circle members sync the next time both devices are online at the same time.
