Install it

Mac

Download the .pkg from GitHub: arm64 for Apple silicon (M1 and later), x64 for Intel. Open it and follow the installer. The dashboard opens in your browser when it finishes, and PeerLoom Seeder in Applications opens it again later. It runs in the background, also when nobody is logged in.

If FileVault is on, a Mac that restarts waits for someone to unlock it before anything runs, the seeder included. After a power cut or an update, log in once (or connect with SSH). For a restart you plan, sudo fdesetup authrestart unlocks it for you once.

Windows

Download PeerLoomSeeder-Setup from GitHub and run it. The installer is not signed, so Windows warns first: choose More info, then Run anyway. It runs as a background service and starts with Windows. Open the dashboard from PeerLoom Seeder in the Start menu.

Linux

On Debian or Ubuntu, install the .deb from GitHub and open PeerLoom Seeder from your apps. Elsewhere, use the AppImage (make it executable and open it) or the .tar.gz, which has its own instructions. Both start a background service that keeps running after you log out.

Umbrel

Add the PeerLoom community app store to your Umbrel (App Store, the three dots, Community App Stores, then https://github.com/peerloomllc/peerloom-umbrel-app-store) and install PeerLoom Seeder. Its dashboard asks for the password Umbrel shows next to the app.

StartOS

Add https://peerloomllc.com as a registry in StartOS and install PeerLoom Seeder. Run its Show password action, then open the Dashboard interface and enter the password.

Pair a phone

On the dashboard, choose Pair a device. A code and a link appear for 5 minutes. In your PeerLoom app, open its seeder settings and scan the code or paste the link:

PearList: Settings, Connection, Seeder backup. PearCircle: Settings, Seeders & relay. PearCal: Profile, Advanced, PeerLoom Seeder. PearOffice: its seeder settings.

The dashboard then lists the phone under its app. Every group, circle or file that phone is in starts backing up, and the other members' phones back it up too.

Frequently asked questions

My phone cannot reach the seeder

Make sure the seeder is running and the code is less than 5 minutes old. A phone on the same home network as a Start9 or some routers can only reach the seeder through the PeerLoom relay, so leave the relay switch on in the app's settings. The relay only passes scrambled data along.

How much space does it use?

A few hundred MB for lists, calendars and documents; more for big files. Each paired device may store 25 GB to start; change that or turn it off on the dashboard.

How do I stop using it?

In the app, choose Stop using next to the seeder. On the dashboard, Forget removes a device; what no other paired device backs up is deleted after 7 days.

How do I update it?

The dashboard says when a new version is out. On Mac and Windows, choose Update now. On Linux, run peerloom-seeder update. Umbrel and StartOS update it from their app stores.
